YANNICK WEBER EXCLUDED FROM SWISS TEAM

SOLVING THE CANADIENS DEFENCE PUZZLE

With only two players under contract, and as many as nine possiblities, Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier is going to have an interesting off-season configuring his defence for next season. Jaroslav Spacek and P.K. Subban are set for the coming season. Josh Gorges is a restricted free agent. Markov, Wisniewski, Hamrlik, Gill, Mara and Sopel are all unrestricted. Gauthier is going to have to decide who to let go and with whom to negotiate.



WEBER WILL PLAY THIRD STRAIGHT VS. SENATORS

Expect Yannick Weber to play his third straight game on the Canadiens defence tomorrow night against the Ottawa Senators. This may be causing a great deal of consternation among P.K. Subban fans, but Weber has unquestionably earned another start. It is also a testament to a Canadiens farm system that can there are two strong replacements for all-star Andrei Markov and keep winning games



WEBER REPLACES SUBBAN VS. DEVILS TONIGHT

After a rough night against the Oilers last night, P.K. Subban will be watching tonight’s game from the New Jersey press box. Yannick Weber will take a regular turn on defence, his natural position, for the first time since his re-call on November 17th. In the two games he played, Weber was used as a forward in even-strength situations.



WHAT TO DO WITH YANNICK WEBER?

It is said that, in order to make the jump to the NHL, you first have to be dominant in the minor leagues. There is no question of Yannick Weber’s dominance in the American Hockey League. He leads all AHL defenseman in goals with eight and is fifth in points. But….and it’s a big but…he also shares the team-worst defensive rating at minus-five.

So, he comes to the Canadiens with the reputation of being a one-trick-pony; a puck moving offensive defenseman with glaring deficiencies in his own end of the ice.



CANADIENS CALL UP YANNICK WEBER FROM HAMILTON

Not much to be said about this. Considering the way he was dominating the American Hockey League as an offensive defenseman, Yannick Weber was the logical one to be called up as a replacement for Andrei Markov. He’ll be in the press box tonight with Alexandre Picard likely to occupy the spot next to P.K. Subban on the third defensive pairing.



BULLDOGS BEAT ROCHESTER 5-2 (OCT.19/10)

The Bulldogs, keyed by two goals from defenceman Yannick Weber, beat the Rochester Americans 5-2 before 1,669 fans Tuesday night fans at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton. It was the smallest crowd in the fifteen year history of the Bulldogs. Weber has 3 goals and 4 assists to lead all Bulldogs scorers. Other goals for Hamilton scored by Alexander Avtsin, Mathieu Carle and Andrew Conboy.



CANADIENS QUESTION MARKS FOR SEASON OPENER

The Canadiens assigned five to the minors today with no surprises in the group. They open their season with some question marks. Carey Price suffering from the flu; Roman Hamrlik has had an injury setback; Michael Cammalleri is suspended and Andrei Markov is still rehabilitating from May knee surgery.
