UPDATE – TYLER MYERS HIT ON SCOTT GOMEZ – Three Game Suspension

The NHL has suspended Buffalo defenceman Tyler Myers three games for a hit from behind on the Canadiens Scott Gomez Monday night in Buffalo. Tyler Myers was given a two minute penalty for boarding. It was a dangerous hit and the NHL player safety department decided supplementary discipline was required following a Tuesday afternoon hearing. Shanahan revealed in his report that Gomez was injured on the play, something not revealed by the Canadiens.



THE SCOTT GOMEZ SOLUTION – Buyout or Minor Leagues

It’s not so much that Scott Gomez is a bad hockey player. He isn’t. Gomez is just not worth a salary cap hit of 7.35 million dollars a year. The Canadiens between June 15th and 30th will have to make a decision on whether or not to buy Gomez’s contract out. If the buyout is not in the best interests of the hockey club, unless the rules change in regard to the disposal of ‘bad’ contracts, the next option will be waiving him to the minors after training camp.

THE CANADIENS INJURY LIST CONTINUES TO GROW

Andrei Kostitsyn became the eighth member of the Canadiens to miss at least a game with an injury this season. A nagging groin injury will keep him out of tomorrow night’s game in Nashville. Michael Cammalleri became a casualty for the second time when he suffered a thigh injury against Edmonton on Tuesday. If this keeps up the Canadiens could run their man-games-lost to 300 by the end of the season.



AARON PALUSHAJ RECALLED – Markov Travels With Team

The Canadiens recalled forward Aaron Palushaj from their Hamilton Bulldogs farm team today to replace the injured Andrei Kostitsyn in their lineup. It’s the fourth time Palushaj has been re-called in the last thirty days.



GOMEZ SKATES – Kostitsyn Leaves Monday Practice

Scott Gomez practiced with his teammates this morning for the first time in almost three weeks although he has not been cleared for any physical contact. At the same time, Andrei Kostitsyn left practice with an undisclosed injury. Gomez will not play tomorrow against Edmonton but will accompany the team to Phoenix and Nashville later in the week. Kostitsyn’s injury is in the process of being evaluated.
