We knew almost from the day that Marc Bergevin was hired as Canadiens general manager that Martin Lapointe would be joining him. There were rumours it might be an assistant coaching position but now it’s being reported he’ll be part of what is becoming a bloated team executive.



RICK DUDLEY FINALLY NAMED HABS ASS’T GM – Carriere Contract Extended

Montreal Canadiens executive vice president and general manager, Marc Bergevin, announced today the appointment of Rick Dudley to the position of assistant general manager. The Canadiens also announced a contract extension for Larry Carrière to remain assistant general manager.

CANADIENS FIRE JACQUES MARTIN

When a team has trouble putting back to back wins together, cannot protect third period leads and is bouncing in and out of contention for a playoff berth, it is a lead-pipe cinch the coach is going to be fired. Today, the Canadiens fired coach jacques Martin and replaced him with Randy Cunneyworth. Curnneyworth will be behind the Canadiens bench when the Canadiens host the New Jersey Devils in their final home game of 2011.



LARRY CARRIERE JOINS HABS FRONT OFFICE

Larry Carriere, most recently the Washington Capitals pro-scout, will join the Canadiens in the role of assistant to general manager Pierre Gauthier. Carriere was a second round draft choice of the Buffalo Sabres in 1972. He layed on five NHL teams. He was assistant GM of the Buffalo Sabres for 9 years before joining the Washington Capitals as pro scout in 2004. Carriere is one of the first graduates of Canadian University Hockey (Loyola) to play in the NHL.
