Veteran Hal Gill got all over his defense partner today at the Canadiens Brossard practice facility for scattering his equipment and apparently leaving it for team staff to pick up. Gill, noting the behaviour, picked up a discarded sweater, handed it to him saying “You’re an asshole, P.K.” There is no end of things a rookie has to learn when he comes to the big leagues.

The Canadiens appointed right winger Brian Gionta to be the 28th captain in team history. The selection was made by the Canadiens front office and not by the semi-traditional dressing room popularity vote.
In the end the choice was between Gionta or ten year team-veteran Andrei Markov. While Gionta has four years remaining in a five year contract signed last summer, Markov can become an unrestricted free agent next July first.
Rumour had it, apparently arising from a bar conversation, that Markov had suffered a torn MCL (or was it an ACL?) in game one of the Pittsburgh series and would be finished for the season. Wonder of wonders, there was Markov, sans crutches, accomapnying accompanied the Canadiens on their trip to Pittsburgh Saturday. This morning he was on skates at the Brossard practice facility. Doesn’t mean he’ll be available for game six of the series tomorrow night, but being back on skates in just ten days indicates something far removed from a torn knee ligament.
