Seven members of the Canadiens have memories of the NHL-imposed lockout of eight years ago. Four of them rode out the dispute with European teams, the other three played in North America, two in the AHL and the other, Scott Gomez in his hometown of Anchorage Alaska.

You can argue that the Canadiens will bring eleven defensemen into training camp capable of landing an NHL job. The core group remains but Frederic St. Denis, who was signed to a two-way contract on Thursday, joins a group of five or six with a chance to join the team to start the season.



EX-HAB BOUILLON GETS TWO-YEAR NASHVILLE CONTRACT

Defenceman Francis Bouillon was one of the eleven players Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey considered expendable when he trashed the 2008-09 Canadiens last June. Bouillon signed with Nashville just before last season started. He turned out to be a bargain for the Predators. He led all Nashville defencemen at plus-5 with a modest 3 goals and 8 assists. The team this week rewarded him with a two eyar 2.7 million dollar contract, effectively doubling last year’s paycheck.
