While the NHL and it’s player’s association continue to do their dance in New Jersey and European hockey takes it’s annual ten day December schedule break, life goes on in the nether regions of North American hockey.

All seven members of the locked-out Canadiens currently in Europe are now off for ten days as the leagues take their rraditional ten day December break. Tomas Plekanec notched another assist in a losing effort against Sparta Prague on Sunday.
Tomas Plekanec assisted on the winning goal in Kladno in the Czech Republic and in Russia Alexei Emelin was part of a Ak-Bars Kazan win on the road Sunday. Alexander Galchenyuk follows a four point night with a goal against Oshawa, his 20th of the season..
Only two of the seven Canadiens playing in Europe, Lars Eller and Yannick Weber saw action on Saturday. Eller was in Kuopiu Finland while in Switzerland Weber and Geneva played host to Lugano. And in North America Alex Galchenyuk had his biggest night of the season in the OHL.
Five members of the locked out Canadiens saw action in European Leagues Friday. Tomas Plekanec had a three point night, Alexei Emelin scored the first goal of his KHL season, and in the Swiss League Raphael Diaz with two assists, David Desharnais with his first Swiss League point.
Of the seven members of the Canadiens currently with European-based teams, only Alexei Emelin saw action on Wednesday.
A busy weekend for locked out members of the Canadiens, most of them in Europe as well as some of the Habs Junior prospects. Lars Eller played his second game with Jyväskylä of Finland’s SM-Liiga. Others to see action were Raphael Diaz and Yannick Weber.
Three of the Canadiens 2012 junior draft picks, including Alex Galcheyuk saw action Friday night. Kamloops forward Tim Bozon served a one game suspensioh.
The Canadiens have always had the policy of drafting the best available player on their list rather than opting for position. Because of the fixation the rest of the league had on defensemen, Trevor Timmins and his staff found themselves in position to draft forwards who had seemed to slip through the cracks starting with first round choice Alexander Galchenyuk who was available because Columbus opted for a defense prospect.
