CANADIENS ACQUIRE FORWARD FROM PHOENIX-Call Up Blunden

Losers of five straight games, the Canadiens today traded for forward Petteri Nokelainen and defenseman Garrett Stafford from the Phoenix Coyotes, in return for forward BrockTrotter and a 7th-round draft pick in 2012. Nokelainen reports to the Canadiens, Stafford will head for Hamilton. The Canadiens also recalled forward Michael Blunden from Hamilton and returned Andreas Engqvist and Aaron Palushaj to the Bulldogs.



BULLDOGS WIN SEASON OPENER

CANADIENS FINALLY SIGN BROCK TROTTER

Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier announced the signing of forward Brock Trotter to a one year contract. Trotter was the top goalscorer on the Hamilton Bulldogs two years ago but elected to sign a contract with Dinamo Riga of the KHL last season. Yet to be signed for the coming season are restricted free agents Josh Gorges and Ryan White from the Canadiens roster and minor leaguers Mathieu Carle, Frederic St. Denis and Ryan Russell. Goaltender Drew MacIntyre is an unrestricted free agent.



JAGR TO NHL? AGAIN. MORE ON BROCK TROTTER RETURN

It would appear that Jaromir Jagr’s options are becoming fewer. On a day when the KHL’s St. Petersburg SKA says they’re not interested in his services, the Jagr camp has apparently reintroduced the four NHL teams, including Montreal, for whom he would like to play. Meanwhile, Brock Trotter’s Russian agent says his client has signed a one-year two-way contract with the Canadiens after getting a release from the second year of his contract with Dinamo Riga.



CANADIENS RE-SIGN BROCK TROTTER AFTER SEASON IN KHL

According to the Moscow newspaper Sovietsky Sport, forward Brock Trotter is rejoining the Canadiens after a year in the Kontinental Hockey League.  Trotter signed a one year contract with the KHL”s Dynamo Riga last July after leading the 2009-2010 Hamilton Bulldogs with 36 goals.  He also had 41 assists to finish one point behind David Desharnais

CAN CANADIENS SIGN YEMELIN?-Goaltender Ramo Ignored

There aren’t too many P.K. Subban’s and Shea Weber’s around. Most defencemen take five or six years to develop. Alexei Yemelin has now spent six years honing his skills in Russia’s top league. He’s played on two Russian championship teams and he’s currently in Bratislava, Slovakia participating in his fourth World Tournament. His two year contract with Ak-Bars Kazan has now expired. Toronto agent Don Meehan and his Russian associates will now be representing Yemelin for the second time in negotiations with the Canadiens.



METROPOLIT & HUET HEAD-TO-HEAD IN SWITZERLAND

Former Canadiens Glen Metropolit and Cristobal Huet faced each other in the Swiss National Hockey League Friday night. Metropolit, playing for Zug, scored the first goal of the game and added an assist as his team went on to a 4-2 win over Fribourg and Huet.
Meanwhile, former Hamilton Bulldog Brock Trotter, now playing for Riga Dinamo of the Kontinental Hockey league, scored his third goal of the season in a 4-3 overtime loss to Avangard at Omsk.
