BENOIT POULIOT – “ENIGMA”

For the second time in four games, Pouliot will lose his position as a front-line left winger. Against Buffalo tomorrow night he’ll play on the fourth unit with Dustin Boyd and Tom Pyatt. His place on the Gomez/Gionta line will be assumed by Travis Moen. In three games this season he has only two shots on just under thirty minutes total ice time, 26 minutes playing with Gomez and Gionta. You have a right to expect more from a so-called “top six” forward.



ELLER/POULIOT IN SPOTLIGHT VS. BUFFALO TONIGHT

Both Lars Eller and Benoit Pouliot will be part of the Canadiens opening night roster. Still to be decided is what their role will be. The two forwards will be in the spotlight tonight for totally different reasons when the Canadiens meet the Buffalo Sabres at the Bell Centre. Eller will be back at his normal centre-ice position for the first time in the training camp. Pouliot will be trying to re-establish himself as a front line leftwinger after spending most of training camp on the team’s third and fourth lines.



LOOKING AHEAD-The Canadiens Roster Long-Term

Did you know the Canadiens have seven players with no-trade clauses in their contracts including Andrei Markov and Roman Hamrlik, both of whom will be unrestricted free agents at the end of this season? The trade restrictions on the two defensemen ends on February first, 2011, meaning the Canadiens can make a deal for them at the trade deadline if they wish. At the end of the coming season, Canadiens general manager Pierre Gauthier will have to deal with five unrestricted and eight restricted free agents. He will have just over twenty-five million dollars to sign thirteen players with defensemen Markov and Josh Gorges the top priorities.
And indication of the hockey world in the salary cap era, the Canadiens presently are committed to only four contracts two years from now, Gomez, Cammalleri, Gionta and Plekanec. And they are committed to only one contract, Plekanec, in the 2014-2015 season.



TONIGHT’S LINEUP “ADJUSTMENT”-O’BYRNE/POULIOT IN, SERGEI/DARCHE OUT

Ryan O’Byrne will be a seventh defenceman tonight in game three of the Philadelphia/Montreal series replacing forward Sergei Kostitsyn, who’s return to the lineup lasted one game. Benoit Pouliot returns , replacing Mathieu Darche on the fourth line.
