Jun 23rd, 2011 | By

Markov’s contract calls for 5.75 million dollars a season over the three years which is what he earned in each of the four years in his preceding contract.

MARKOV NOT SIGNED YET BUT HABS OFF SEASON STILL REMARKABLE

Jun 21st, 2011 | By

The Team 990 reported Monday night that Andrei Markov and the Canadiens have reached agreement on a two-year 11.5 million dollar contract. Markov’s agent Don Meehan subsequently denied the deal will be completed until he meet with Canadiens generall manager Pierre Gauthier this weekend at the NHL draft meetings in Minnesota. Even without the Markov signing, the Canadiens find themselves in excellant shape as they approach July first free-agency.

A HARD LESSON FOR DALLAS IN THE LAST MARKOV CONTRACT

Jun 5th, 2011 | By

In their eagerness to get key freeagents to sign on the dotted line, teams are willing to forego common sense. The Dallas Stars might have learned from the Canadiens when it came to signing Brad Richards five years ago. They handed Richards and absolute no-trade contract and are about to lose an all-star player to whom they paid 37.5 million dollars for absolutely nothing in return.

RAFALSKI RETIRED -RED WINGS CONSIDER WISNIEWSKI/MARKOV

May 26th, 2011 | By

With the Brian Rafalski retirement, and the possibility of 41 year old Niklas Lidstrom joining him, the Red Wings are probably taking a hard look at Canadiens’ unrestricted free agents James Wisniewski and Andrei Markov as July first signing targets. Rafalski earned six million dollars last year; Lidstrom 6.2-million. Markov and Wisniewski are part of a group of four or five UFA’s with the skill set to replace Rafalski/Lidstrom.

Here’s the way we imagine the conversation between Gauthier and Meehan might go.

UPDATE-GILL/SUBBAN DRESSING ROOM ‘CONFRONTATION’

Feb 8th, 2011 | By

Veteran Hal Gill got all over his defense partner today at the Canadiens Brossard practice facility for scattering his equipment and apparently leaving it for team staff to pick up. Gill, noting the behaviour, picked up a discarded sweater, handed it to him saying “You’re an asshole, P.K.” There is no end of things a rookie has to learn when he comes to the big leagues.

THE HABS WEEK – Nov. 28 to Dec. 4th

Dec 5th, 2010 | By

It turned out nicely after all, at least on the ice. The week’s schedule featured three games in less than four days (67 hours). It started with that home game against Edmonton Wednesday in which the Canadiens blew a 3-0 lead, losing 4-3 in overtime. The Canadiens came back the next night with a 5-1 win over the injury plagued and struggling Devils in New Jersey before returning home to grind out a 3-1 win over San Jose Saturday afternoon. In the end, the Canadiens took five of a possible six points

POST MARKOV-CANADIENS HAVE CAP FLEXIBILITY

Dec 3rd, 2010 | By

Andrei Markov’s season is over. The announcement came with 128 days left in the season. Markov’s salary is $30,914 per day, meaning the Canadiens meaning the team can replace around 3.8 million remaining dollars of his contract within their salary cap should they want to.
In reality, should Pierre Gauthier elect to spend, he has over five million dollars in available cap space.
Let the rumours and speculation begin.

SEASON OVER FOR MARKOV-Knee Surgery Dec. 8

Dec 3rd, 2010 | By

It took 20 days and a myriad of hospital visits before it was finally decided that Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov requires season-ending knee surgery.

Season-ending and perhaps the end of his ten year career as a member of the Canadiens. On July first, Markov becomes an unrestricted free agent.
