MARKOV TO TAKE MORE TIME OFF

Andrei Markov has been advised to give his rehabilitating knee a rest from Canadiens practice. Markov sought a second opinion on the state of his surgically repaired knee in Los Angeles while his teammates were in San Jose yesterday. The advice from the specialist “give it a rest for a few days”.



MARKOV CLEARED FOR FULL CONTACT

Andrei Markov practiced this morning in a white jersey for the first time in just over a year. The white jersey meant he had been cleared for full contact scrimmaging with his teammates. He made the trip with the team to Carolina but it’s unlikely he’ll be cleared to play in a game for another two weeks or so.



CANADIENS OFF-DAY – Scoring Chances, Hal Gill and the Defense

According to Jacques Martin, the Canadiens gave up too many scoring chances to the Islanders last night. Hal Gill was in hospital because of an infected lacteration on a leg and won’t be available for tomorrow night’s game against a New York Ranger team that has won it’s last seven games.



SPACEK AND ENGQVIST JOIN HABS GROWING INJURY LIST

Two more names were added to the Canadiens injury list last night against the Buffalo Sabres. Jaroslav Spacek appeared to re-injure his ribs and forward Andreas Engqvist suffered a lower body injury in the game’s second period. The Canadiens were already playing without Michael Cammalleri, Andrei Kostitsyn, Hal Gill and long term casualties Andrei Markov, Chris Campoli and Ryan White.



AARON PALUSHAJ RECALLED – Markov Travels With Team

The Canadiens recalled forward Aaron Palushaj from their Hamilton Bulldogs farm team today to replace the injured Andrei Kostitsyn in their lineup. It’s the fourth time Palushaj has been re-called in the last thirty days.

Martin notes that the team is still below break-even and there is still a lot of work left to put the team in playoff postition by season’s end.



MARKOV RETURNS TO MONTREAL TOMORROW

Andrei Markov returns from Florida Saturday complete with the all-clear to resume skating at the Canadiens Brossard Training Centre. There is no indication from the Canadiens when he might start taking part in scrimmages. Markov’s expected one week stay in Florida was stretched to three weeks.

GALLAGHER, BOURNIVAL RETURNED TO JUNIOR TEAMS

Forwards Brendan Gallagher and Michael Bournival have been returned to their junior teams; Gallagher to the Vancouver Giants of the WHL and Bournival to the Shawinigan Cataracts of the QMJHL. Finnish-born rookie centre Joonas Nattinen was sent to the Hamilton Bulldogs training camp.
