ANDREI MARKOV SIGNS WITH KHL’S VITYAZ CHEKHOV

Andrei Markov has signed a lockout contract with Vityaz Chekhov of the KHL. Markov had indicated in an interview with a Russian Sports publication that he was awaiting an offer from a KHL team. He had been practicing with his Canadiens teammates during the early stages of the lockout.

The Canadiens selected defenseman Alexei Emelin in 84th overall in the 2004 entry draft. Rather than come to the Canadiens minor league organization where he faced prolonged growing pains, he elected to stay in the lucrative Kontinental League where he played seven years. Rather than playing for AHL wages he earned top money in the KHL and arrived in Montreal a fully developed NHL defenseman.

ANDREI MARKOV PLACED ON CANADIENS ACTIVE ROSTER-Available vs. Canucks

Andrei Markov was placed on the Canadiens active roster on Saturday morning. That means he’ll be available for tonight’s game against the Vancouver Canucks. It will be Randy Cunneyworth’s gametime decision as to whether Markov is included in the lineup at Rogers Arena. If not, he will Markov will be considered a ‘healthy scratch’.



SURGERY FOR BLUNDEN-Weber Joins Injury List/Palushaj Recalled

Canadiens right winger Michael Blunden underwent arthroscopic knee surgery this morning and will be lost to the Canadiens for between 15 and 20 games. Blunden was hurt February 2nd in New Jersey. The surgery decision was made after swelling had gone down and miniscus damage was discovered. The Canadiens also have Yannick Weber to worry about. Weber suffered what appeared to be an injury to his left knee last night against Pittsburgh and was left behind when the Canadiens flew to Long Island Wednesday afternoon. Aaron Palushaj has been recalled from Hamilton to repllace him.



MARKOV RESUMES SKATING – 15 Minute Session Tuesday

It’s been 444 days since Andrei Markov played his last NHL game. He started his third attempt at coming back from surgery to his right knee with a Tuesday fifteen minute solo session at the Canadiens Brossard training centre. Markov underwent major reconstructive surgery in December, 2010. His recovery was set back in training camp and again in December when he underwent arthroscopic surgery. According to reports, he completed the workout with no adverse consequences.

ARTHROSCOPIC SURGERY FOR MARKOV

Andrei Markov will undergo an arthroscopic procedure In Florida next week to clear out debris left over from the right knee ACL/MCL surgery he had almost a year ago. The surgery will set his return to the Canadiens lineup back at least another three weeks. We are nearing the first anniversary of the surgery that rebuilt the knee, December 8th of last year..
