MARKOV NOW SKATING-Possible October Return To Lineup

The RDS television network is reporting that defenseman Andrei Markov is already on skates only three and one half months after under going surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate liagment in his right knee. At the time, doctors estimated Markov would be out of the lineup for six months with an estimated return slated for mid-November. There is now hope for an early season appearance in the lineup.

MARKOV-SUCCESSFUL KNEE SURGERY

Last Friday, Andrei Markov gave up on his attempt to come back from a knee injury he suffered in game one of the Eastern Semi-Final series against Pittsburgh. Today he successfully underwent surgery to repair a tear in his right ACL. He is expected to be unavailable to the Canadiens until November.

Andrei Markov put in a full practice with the Canadiens this morning for the first time since he was checked into the boards by Matt Cooke in game one of the Pittsburgh series two weeks ago. He was paired with his regular late-season partner Ryan O’Byrne.

Rumour had it, apparently arising from a bar conversation, that Markov had suffered a torn MCL (or was it an ACL?) in game one of the Pittsburgh series and would be finished for the season. Wonder of wonders, there was Markov, sans crutches, accomapnying accompanied the Canadiens on their trip to Pittsburgh Saturday. This morning he was on skates at the Brossard practice facility. Doesn’t mean he’ll be available for game six of the series tomorrow night, but being back on skates in just ten days indicates something far removed from a torn knee ligament.

What’s with Andrei Markov?

He suffered a knee injury after a legal hit by the Penguins Matt Cooke in game one of the Eastern Conference Semi-final and hasn’t been seen since. Until today. Markov was on the flight to Pittsburgh with his teammates this afternoon.



STAAL & MARKOV SERIES-ENDING INJURIES

Andrei Markov was flown home via charter late last night after injuring his right knee in the first period of the opening game of the series. Penguins centre Jordan Staal suffered a cut tendon in the second period during a collision with the Habs P.K. Subban.
