The Canadiens returned to Montreal after last night’s loss in Toronto. The team practiced at their Brossard facility this morning. Tomorrow they head for Winnipeg for Sunday’s meeting with the Jets. CANADIENS SIGN EMELIN TO ONE-YEAR CONTRACT

The Alexei Emelin signing ended four years of contract tag. Emelin preferred to gain experience in the KHL, which is a level above the American Hockey League, while collecting Russian major league pay. Scouts are now saying he has the potential to go directly to an NHL roster.



SOLVING THE CANADIENS DEFENCE PUZZLE

With only two players under contract, and as many as nine possiblities, Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier is going to have an interesting off-season configuring his defence for next season. Jaroslav Spacek and P.K. Subban are set for the coming season. Josh Gorges is a restricted free agent. Markov, Wisniewski, Hamrlik, Gill, Mara and Sopel are all unrestricted. Gauthier is going to have to decide who to let go and with whom to negotiate.



EMELIN AGAIN SAYS “NYET” TO CANADIENS-AVTSIN WILL BE AT TRAINING CAMP

2004 Canadiens draft choice Alexei Emelin has again turned down a Canadiens offer to attend training camp, electing to play out a his contract with Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL. Meanwhile, Rightwinger Alexander Avtsin has confirmed he will be attending Canadiens camp this fall. Avtsin was drafted by the Canadiens in 2009.
