Steve Quailer scored a power play goal with 3:47 remaining in the third period to break a 0-0 tie and give the Hamilton Bulldogs a 1-0 win over the Lake Erie Monsters.

the Hamilton Bulldogs, led by Brendan Gallagher and Alexander Avtsin, came away with a 6-3 win over the Toronto Marlies in the first of a home and home set with the Toronto Marlies Friday night. The teams will meet again in Toronto Saturday afternoon.

The Canadiens selected defenseman Alexei Emelin in 84th overall in the 2004 entry draft. Rather than come to the Canadiens minor league organization where he faced prolonged growing pains, he elected to stay in the lucrative Kontinental League where he played seven years. Rather than playing for AHL wages he earned top money in the KHL and arrived in Montreal a fully developed NHL defenseman.

Because of the injury to Brian Gionta, which took him out of the seaason’s second half, right wing on the Canadiens became a serious problem. Gionta’s replacements were a mixture of rookies and fourth line players and the results were predictable. Gionta returns next season but the Canadiens still have a major third line iissue to deal with.

The Bingham Senators scored two unanswered goals in the third period en route to a 4-2 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs Friday night. The AHL game was the first of two scheduled for the Bell Centre this season. Nikolai Filatov scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Senators.

Led by a three point performance from Alexander Avtsin, the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Binghamton Senators before over 8,400 fans at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. Avtsin drew assists on goals by Joonas Nattinen, Andreas Engqvist and Louis Leblanc. Other Hamilton goals were scored by Brian Willsie and Frederic St. Denis. The Bulldogs outshot the Senators

The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Adirondack Phantoms 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night. Trailing 3-1 with five minutes remaining in regulation time Hamilton got goals 1:27 apart from Kyle Klubertanz and Hunter Bishop to tie the game and send it to overtime and eventually the shootout.
