Rather than report to the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL, Hamilton leftwinger Alain Berger has elected to return to Switzerland. Berger has signed a two year contract with Bern of the Swiss National League.

Because of the injury to Brian Gionta, which took him out of the seaason’s second half, right wing on the Canadiens became a serious problem. Gionta’s replacements were a mixture of rookies and fourth line players and the results were predictable. Gionta returns next season but the Canadiens still have a major third line iissue to deal with.



CANADIENS SIGN ANOTHER SWISS DEFENSEMAN

Canadiens GM Pierre Gauthier’s trip to Slovakia was not totally in vain. Even if he’s unable to sign Alexei Emelin, he managed to land Rafael Diaz, a defenseman from the Swiss National team and EV Zug. He was a teammate of former Canadien Glen Metropolit last season.
