The Canadiens sent assigned forward Gabriel Dumont to the training camp of thier affiliate Hamilton Bulldogs reducing the size of the training camp roster to thirty-nine. Eleven of the thirty-nine are nursing injuries of various forms.
Dumont had a fairly good camp which was reflected in the fact that he played in four of the six exhibition games. Dumont, a QMJHL-leading 51-goal scorer in his final year of junior hockey at Drummondville, has lost his scoring touch as a professional. He scored only five goals in 64 games last season in Hamilton and failed to score a point in training camp. He was informed of his re-assignment after this morning’s practice.
The injury list includes regulars David Desharnais, Lars Eller, Andrei Markov, Travis Moen, and Ryan White plus prospects LW-Hunter Bishop, D-Brendon Nash, C-Olivier Fortier, C-Louis Leblanc, 28-Joonas Nattinen, and LW-Ian Schultz.
In other training camp news – Defenseman Chris Campoli worked out with his new teammates, 24 hours after signing a 1.75 million dolar one-year contract. He’ll wear number 17. Undrafted forward Philip DeSimone has signed a one year two-way contract with the Canadiens. He came to camp on a tryout basis after graduating from the University of New Hampshire in June. DeSimone appeared in four exhibition games. Centre David Desharnais, one of the eleven still on the injury list, practiced today and has been cleared to play Thursday against Tampa Bay. Lars Eller also practiced but indicated he won’t be available for the final two exhibition games. Eller is coming back from shoulder surgery.
