ICECAPS WRAP UP SEASON WITH A 2-1 WIN OVER HARTFORD SATURDAY

1 harfort saturdayThe St. John’s IceCaps completed their chaotic 2015-2016 season with a 2-1 win over the Hartford Wolfpack before a sellout crowd of 5,994 Saturday night at Mile One Centre in St. John’s.

Rookie Tim Bozon broke the 1-1 tie with 2:19 remaining and goaltender Eddie Pasquale made a number of saves in the final 90 seconds with the Hartford net empty to preserve the win.

Jacob de la Rose scored the other IceCaps goal. Adam Tambellini scored scored for Hartford, an affiliate of the New York Rangers.

Shots on goal were 36-35 in favour of Hartford.

Notes –

The IceCaps finish the season with a 32-33-11 record leaving them 5th in the seven team North Division and 11th in the Eastern Conference.

….In pre game ceremonies – team captain Gabriel Dumont was named the IceCaps Most Valuable Player. Morgan Ellis was named the top defenseman. Rookie of the year – Mike McCarron and the Hardest Working Player was defenseman Josiah Didier. Goaltender Zach Fucale was given the Man-of-the-Year Award for community service.

….The IceCaps season scoring leader was Bud Holloway with 61 points in 71 games (19g, 42a). Holloway will be an unrestricted free agent and is expected to return to European hockey next season.

….Charles Hudon led the IceCaps with 28 goals and was second in points with 53.

….The IceCaps used a total of 47 skaters and four goaltenders in games this season. Because of recalls and injury no member of the team played in all 76 games. Only three played more than 70 led by Morgan Ellis’ 73; Gabriel Dumont 71 and Bud Holloway at 70.
