price practice iiCarey Price took part in a full Canadiens practice for the first time since before the Olympics Friday.  It was also his first full workout since he played in the Olympics gold medal game nineteen days ago. He was on the ice early to take shots from teammates and then was in one of the goals for the entire regular practice session. All tolled, he was on the ice 90 minutes. Outwardly he seemed to have a full range of movement and showed no discomfort in the groin area which is suspected to be the area of his injury.

Price remains on the Canadiens injured reserve list and his status remains day to day.  Conditioning, game readiness and sharpness will be the issue now. That will determine the date of his return to game action. The best guess is Wednesday’s game against Colorado.

In the meantime, Coach Michel Therrien and his staff have some difficult decisions about the weekend’s goaltenders against Ottawa and in Buffalo. The suspicion is Dustin Tokarski might be in there against Ottawa Saturday night.

Montreal Canadiens v Phoenix CoyotesIf the practice lines carry over to the weekend games, some interesting changes up front.  With only seven goals scored in the last five games, Therrien moved left wing Thomas Vanek,  to the right side with David Desharnais and Max Pacioretty. They were together for the Canadiens only goal against Boston Wednesday.

The EGG line was reassembled and Daniel Briere rejoins Plekanec and Gionta. On defence Bouillon was again with Subban and Murray with Tinordi. (see below)

The Canadiens have scored only eight goals their last five games and one power play goal their last 23 advantages.

Michael Bournival has recovered from his concussion and was cleared by the Canadiens medical staff. He took part in the entire practice Friday.  He, like Price, remains in the injured reserve list along with defenseman Josh Gorges.

The Canadiens have now have 26 players in camp, including sixteen forwards. Under NHL rules, active rosters may expand from 23 to an unlimited level after the trade deadline.  .

    Hi,
I am 7 years old and a big Montreal fan.I am going to Montreal to see the game Thursday night.I am very excited and counting the days. I am from Saint John New Brunswick and Robert Myers played hockey here and has played goal for you. If Carey Price can’t play goal Thursday when i go it would be nice if Robert got a chance to be there.

  2. Hayden says:

Sorry I see I spelled Robert Mayer’s name wrong.I made a big mistake there.
