With the release announcement of forwards Michael McCarron and Sebastian Collberg plus goaltender Dustin Tokarski, the Canadiens enter training camp’s final week with a bloated 35-player roster.
McCarron will be joining the OHL’s London Knights and Collberg will return to Gothenburg Sweden where he has a year remaining on a two year contract with the Frolunda Indians.
The remaining player roster includes nine who are either coming back from surgeries or nursing various training camp injuries including team captain Brian Gionta, Alexei Emelin, George Parros, Davis Drewiske, Douglas Murray, Nathan Beaulieu and Steve Quailer. Gionta, Parros and Murray are expected to be ready to start the season. Travis Moen and Francis Bouillon have also suffered minor injuries. They practiced Sunday.
Parros and Murray were on the ice prior to Sunday’s practice along with Emelin, who was in full equipment for the first time since last winter’s knee surgery. He is still not expected to be available until December. Beaulieu participated in full practice for the first time since he injured his shoulder early in camp.
McCarron is the last of the Canadiens prospects to be returned to their junior teams.
