BULLDOGS LOSE 5-1 DECISION TO GRAND RAPIDS FRIDAY

Detroit Red Wings second round draft pick Tomas Tatar scored three goals as the Grand Rapids Griffins defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 5-1 Friday night at Copps Coliseum.   The Slovakian born Tatar was drafted by the Wings in 2009.    Another Detroit prospect Gustav Nyquist scored a goal and two assists for the Griffins.  Luke Glendening also scored.   Frederic St. Denis scored the Bulldogs’ only goal early in the second period.

The game’s ending was marred by a series of fights in the final five minutes.  Shortly after Tatar completed his hattrick,  Gabriel Dumont squared off against the Griffins Francis Pare.  Three minutes later three fights broke out simultaneously involving among others the Bulldogs Zack Stortini, Kyle Hagel, Tyler Murovich and Jason  Desantis.  A total of 64 miutes in penalties were handed out in the final melee.

The Bulldogs next game will be Saturday afternoon in Toronto against the Marlies.

Notes -

Right wing Mike Blunden, returned to the Bulldogs by the Canadiens earlier in the day was a late arrival at Copps Coliseum and did not dress for the Bulldogs.

Defenceman Greg Pateryn returned to the lineup for the first time in 34 games.  Pateryn, a rookie, broke an elbow in a fall to the ice during the season’s seventh game November 2nd at Rochester.

Hamilton native Joey Tenute played his first game under the regular  AHL contract he signed Thursday.  The 29 year old Tenute had been playing under a Professional Tryout Contract scoring 2 goals and 2 asssts over six tryout games.  He played in Europe the last four years, most recently in Austria.  Tenute played on a line with Michael Bournival and Louis Leblanc vs. Grant Rapids.
