Notes –

……Canadiens coach Michel Therrien has officially shuffled his lines to start the second game of the season.  Lars Eller will join forward Mike Blunden and defenceman Yannick Weberin the press box.   The first line Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole remains intact.   Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta will stay together.  That line was formed in the third period Saturday night.  Alex Galchenyuk will centre Prust and Brendan Gallagher, who will make his NHL debut.  Travis Moen drops down to the fourth line with White and Armstrong.

…..The Canadiens haven’t opened a season with back-to-back losses since 2000-01.

….. Last season Florida was 4-0 against the Canadiens, the first time they swept a season series against Montreal.  Two of the games were decided by a single goal and the last game, March 27th, was decided in a shootout.  Florida has never defeated Montreal five consecutive times.

…..Before they swept all four games last season the Panthers had lost 11 of 14 to the Habs.

….The Panthers are playing their second game in two nights and their third game in the season’s first four days.  The Canadiens will play their first back to back games January 29th and 30th (vs. Winnipeg/@Ottawa)

….Erik Cole has seven goals and five assists during a ten game point streak against Florida.  In four games vs. the Panthers last season he had three goals and an assist.

….Scott Clemmensen will start in goal for the Panthers.  Versus the Canadiens he has a 6-0-0 all-time record in seven career appearances.

…..Carey Price has never beaten Florida at the Bell Centre.  He is 0-2-1 with a 2.62 GAA.   Last season he lost his two starts against them  (once in the shootout) despite a glittering 1.94GAA.  Peter Budaj was in goal for the other two losses.  Lifetimel Price is 3-4-1 with a career 2.29 GAA versus Florida.

…..When the Panthers beat the Canadiens 2-1 October 24th of last season, it was the Canadiens sixth consecutive loss, their worst season start in 70 years.  They never recovered.

…. Since his trade in 2006 Jose Theodore has made only one start in Montreal.  With Colorado he gave up a career high eight goals in an 8-5 loss October 21, 2006.  Overall he is 2-2-1 with a 4.62 goals against average in six games against the Habs.

…..The Panthers were shutout in Ottawa Monday, their tenth loss in their last eleven games against Ottawa, including six in a row at Scotiabank Place.

…..The Canadiens were 1 for 5 on the power play Saturday against Toronto.  Last season  their power play ranked 28th in the league at 14.3%.

The Cold Hard Stats

Season Series – First of three games.  Only game at the Bell Centre.

2011-2012 Season Series - @Bell Centre Oct. 24, 2011 – Florida-2 Canadiens-1.  Jacob Markstrom made 40 saves for his first NHL win.  Scottie Upshall scored game winner in third.  First time in Canadiens history the Canadiens failed to win at least one of their first five games.   @Sunrise Dec.21 – Florida-3 Canadiens-2.  An empty net goal became game winner.  Tomas Fleischman scored his second goal with 41 seconds remaining.  With the net still empty Erik Cole scored seven seconds later.  Travis Moen also scored for Canadiens.  @Sunrise Feb. 27 – Florida-4  Canadiens-2.   Canadiens had a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes on goals by Desharnais and Subban.  Stephen Weiss had two goals and an assist.  Sean Bergenheim with a goal and two assists. @ Bell Centre March 27 – Florida-3 Canadiens-2 (shootout)  Wojtek Wolski scored in regulation and was the lone scorer in the shootout.  Erik Cole with his career high 31st goal.  Louis Leblanc also scored of the Canadiens.  Subban logs 28:05 icetime.  Pacioretty had nine shots on goal.   It was the 5th time in the previous eight games the Canadiens forced a game into overtime.  They lost four of the games.  The win put the Panthers on track for their first playoff berth since 2000.

Goaltending – Florida – Scott Clemmensen makes his season debut.  Carey Price for the Canadiens.

Who’s Hot – Florida – Alexei Kovalev 1 goal 2 assists in opener.   Jonathan Huberdeau scored first career goal on first shot on goal and also assisted on two others.   Canadiens – Carey Price stopped 24 of 26 shots in season opener vs. Toronto

From the Clinic – Panthers - forward Kris Versteeg (IR hip surgery/groin). Defenseman Erik Gudbrandson (suspended-shoulder) , Sean Bergenheim (suspended -shoulder surgery) and Marcel Goc (suspended-ankle sprain)  (Suspended because of injuries suffered in Europe)  Canadiens – Petteri Nokelainen (back);
