GABRIEL DUMONT STATES HIS CASE-Hamilton Edges Toronto Tuesday

With injuries to centremen Scott Gomez and Tomas Plekanec there will be three or four Hamilton Bulldogs forwards who will get special attention when the Canadiens open their  training camp on Saturday.   Among them, Gabriel  Dumont, who is also a centre, is going to get much more than  a second look from the coaching staff.

Dumont scored the game winning goal with forty-eight seconds remaining as the Bulldogs edged the Toronto Marlies 2-1 Tuesday night at Copps Coliseum. It was Dumont’s  team-leading eleventh goal of his AHL season.   He  also leads the team in points with 21.

Dumont has six goals and three assists his last four home games.

Patrick Holland also scored for Hamilton.

Robert Mayer, making a third consecutive start, faced 24 shots to  get credit for the win.  He has four wins and two shootout losses in his last six starts.

The Bulldogs have now taken five of a possible six points over the last three games; two wins and a shootout loss.

Nazem Kadri scored for the Marlies.

The Bulldogs’ next game is against the Americans in  Rochester at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, January 11.

……Dumont’s scoring breakthrough started December 29th when he completed his first-career hat trick and added two assists for a career-high five points in a 6-3 win over St. John’s.   He was the first member of the Bulldogs to score more than three points in a game this season.

….. Centre Daultan Leveille made his AHL debut, one day after being recalled from the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. A 22-year-old St. Catharines native, Leveille had four goals and three assists for seven points in 25 games with the Nailers

……The Bulldogs are 3-4-1 this season against Toronto, all three wins have been at home.
