DESHARNAIS PACES FIRST PLACE FRIBOURG SATURDAY

David Desharnais had his first multi-point game as the Swiss National League leading Fribourg edged Lugano  5-4 in overtime Saturday.   Desharnais had a goal and an assist in the game.  In 13 games with Fribourg he has two goals and eight assists.   Former Canadien Glen Metropolit had a goal and two assists for Lugano.   The game was played in front of 5,012 fans at Fribourg. They now leads second place Geneva by five points in the SNL standings.  Desharnais will be taking part in the annual Spengler Cup competition which opens on Boxiing Day at Davos Switzerland.

Geneva dropped a 4-3 home ice decision to Ambri-Piotta Saturday.  Geneva’s Yannick Weber was limited to one assist.

Raphael Diaz failed to register a point as Zug lost 5-2 at Davos.  Joe Thornton scored the game winning goal in that game while Dallas Stars forward Loui Eriksson regitered a goal and two assists.

In the KHL Saturday, AK-Bars Kazan lost a 3-2 shootout decision to Slovan Bratislava Saturday.  Alexei Emelin  logged 16:52 in ice time without registering a point.  The game was played in front of 10,055 in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava.  Ak-Bars moves on to play Lev in Prague Monday.

In the ECHL Scott Gomez didn’t record a point but the Alaska Aces beat Stockton California 4-1 at Anchorage.
