European hockey is now officially on it’s ten day December break.
Tomas Plekanec played his last game before the break, a 6-3 loss to Sparta before 10,000 fans in Prague Sunday night. It was Kladno’s sixth straight road loss.
Plekanec recorded one assist in the game and goes to the break third in the Czech Extraliga scoring race. In 28 games he has 20 goals, 22 assists for 42 points and a plus-10 rating. Next game for Kladno will be December 19th at home..
In the ECHL late Saturday, Scott Gomez scored a goal and added two assists as the league leading Alaska Aces defeated the Utah Grizzlies 8-4 at Anchorage. Gomez in eight games with the Aces has 4 goals and 6 assists. Canadiens newcomer Colby Armstrong continues to practice with Utah but has yet to play in a game. The Aces will conclude a four game homestand against the Salt Lake City team Monday night.
On the junior hockey schedules Sunday – In Sarnia Alex Galchenyuk scored once as the Sting beat Sault Ste. Marie 4-1. In 31 games Galchenyuk has 22 goals and 30 assists for 52 points. The Sting have earned at least a point in seven straight games (6-0-1) and Galchenyuk has 8 goals and 7 assists over that stretch.
At Windsor Canadiens fourth round pick Brady Vail assisted on two goals as the Spitfires edged the Oshawa Generals 3-2. Vail has 12 goals and 19 assists in 31 games this season.
In the QMJHL, at Chicoutimi Habs 5th round pick Charles Hudon was shutout along with his teammates in a 3-0 loss to Cape Breton. Hudon has 18 goals and 36 points through 27 games this season.
In the Western Hockey League third round pick Tim Bozon scored once as the Kamloops Blazers defeated the Giants in Vancouver Sunday. It ended a seven game goalless drought for Bozon. Overall Bozon has 17 goals and 25 assists for 42 points in 33 games.
There are two Canadiens draft choices on the roster of the Saskatoon Blades, defensemen Darren Dietz (5th round-2011) and Dalton Thrower (2nd round-2012). Saskatoon shut out the Pats 7-0 in Regina Sunday. It was the second game of a weekend home and home set. The Blades won the first half 9-0 Saturday night in Saskatoon. Dietz registered an assist Sunday and now has 7 goals (all on the power play) and 9 assists in 30 games. Thrower scored his second goal of the season on his return to the Saskatoon lineup Saturday night. He had missed eleven games with an upper body injury. In 15 games he has 2 goals and 5 assists.
