BULLDOGS BEAT ST. JOHN’S 2-1 WEDNESDAY-Split Two Games
Nov 21st, 2012 | By reusch | Category: Hamilton Bulldogs, Hockey-General News
The law of averages will eventually come back to help out the Hamilton Bulldogs again this wasn’t the night. For the 13th consecutive game the Bulldogs gave up the first goal of a game but this time they managed to recover to beat St. John’s 2-1. It was only the fourth comeback over the thirteen game stretch.
Carl Klingberg gave the St. John’s Bulldogs a 1-0 lead with ten seconds remaining in the first period.
After registering only two shots in the first period Hamilton did come back in the game with team scoring leader Brendan Gallagher setting up Michael Blunden in the 13th minute of the second period and Steve Quailer scored in the final minute to give the Bulldogs a lead in a hockey game for the first time in three games. (Box Score & Hamilton Season Stats Below)
Star of the game was goaltender Cedrick Desjardins. Making his second start of the season Desjardins stopped 29 of 30 shots including all thirteen in the third period. Michael Blunden continues to be the steadiest Hamilton forward. Brendan Gallagher is the best offensive force with an assist and four shots on goal. Gallagher leads all AHL rookies in shots on goal. Aaron Palushaj has been more effective the last three games. On defence Brendan Nash had good night.
Notes-
……Louis Leblanc was in the Hamilton lineup for the first time since suffering a high ankle sprain October 20th against Toronto. Leblanc missed 11 games.
……The Bulldogs signed veteran defenceman Mike Commodore to a 25-game professional tryout contract earlier in the day. Commodore is an unrestricted free agent after playing with Detroit and then Tampa Bay last season.
…….In 15 games, Brendan Gallagher has recorded a team leading 54 shots on goal, ten more than Aaron Palushaj who is second on the Hamilton roster. In the AHL only Charlotte’s Drayson Bowman (57), Adirondak’s Brayden Schenn (56) and Rochester’s T.J. Brennan (55) have been busier around the net than Gallagher.
……Scratches – Injured – D-Greg Pateryn (fractured elbow); C-Blake Geoffrion (skull fracture); Healthy – G-Peter Delmas; D=Joe Stejskal; LW-Alexander Avtsin, LW-Alain Berger.
……The Bulldogs return home to play the Lake Erie Monsters at 4.00 Saturday afternoon and then head out on a four game road trip starting with two games in Abbotsford B.C. November 30th and December 1st.
