BULLDOGS LOSE 3-1 AT ST. JOHN’S-Outshoot IceCaps 46-19

The Hamilton Bulldogs gave up two early power play goals and that was all St. John’s goaltender Eddie Pasquale needed as he led the Icecaps to a 3-1 victory. The Bulldogs outshot Hamilton 46-19 including 34-11 over the last two periods. Forty-six is the Bulldogs season high shots total for the season.tt
Raymond Sawada gave St.John’s a 1-0 lead on a power play at 1:17 of the first period. Derek Meech scored with the man advantage in the second period and Jason Gregoire completed the IceCaps scoring in the third after Brendan Gallagher’s power play had narrowed the score to 2-1. The Gallagher goal was his team-leading 6th of the season.

Among those who stood out for Hamilton were Michael Blunden again. This may have been Brendon Nash’s best game of the season and Steve Quailer had some good moments as well.
The teams will meet again Wednesday night at St. John’s Mile One Centre.

……..Robert Mayer was game time replacement for Cedrick Desjardins who was slated to make his second start of the season. Desjardins was Mayer’s backup.
……..Special teams have been a disaster for the Bulldogs the last three games. Hamilton penalty killers have given up six goals on the last 21 opposition advantages while on their power play Brendan Gallagher’s goal ended a 0-for-15 drought.
……..The Bulldogs have give up the first goal in 12 straight games. They have lost nine of the 12 (3-7-2).
…….Leading the way in Bulldogs shots on goals were LW-Patrick Holland and D-Morgan Ellis with five apiece and RW Brendan Gallagher, RW-Michael Blunden and D-Nathan Beaulieu with four.
………The Bulldogs won their opening game of the season on the road. Since then they’ve lost five in a row plus there were on the losing end of the Bell Centre game November 9th against Syracuse. Overall Hamilton has lost five of their last six.
