Lars Eller – JYP Jyväskylä – Finland SM Liiga

Lars Eller came ready to play with JYP Jyväskylä of  the Finnish SM-Ligga Friday night even if his coach Jyrki Aho tried his best to ease him into the lineup.  Aho gave Eller just 4:20 of playing time, mostly on the power play.  In that brief time, Eller piled up seven shots on goal and scored twice.  To top that,  he then scored the shootout winner as JYP defeated Tappara Tampere 4-3.

Trailing 3-1 going into the third period Eller scored twice on the power play to send the game into overtime.  The tieing goal came with 55  seconds remaining.  Montrealer Eric Perrin assisted on both goals and had a three point night.  Another Montrealer, Ramzi Abid also had an assist for JYP who ended a four game losing streak.

The game was played before 4,013 fans in the central Finland university city of Jyväskylä, 275 kilometres north of Helsinki.

…………In the Kontinental League –

Andrei Markov remains missing in action for Vityaz Chekhov as his  team  lost a 3-2 home  ice decision to St. Petersburg SKA Friday.  Ilya Kovalchuk scored the game winner with 42 seconds remaining. Markov suffered a rib injury October 26th in a mid-ice collision and now has missed five games.

Montrealers know that you judge Alexei Emelin by the ice time he’s given and not his offence.  Emelin logged 20:20 as Ak Bars Kazan beat  Spartak 3-1 on the road in Moscow.  Emelin had 23 shifts and recorded two shots on goal. In 11 games Emelin has one assist and is plus-4.

……And in the Swiss National League-

David Desharnais couldn’t match Lars Eller in his first European game. Desharnais didn’t record a point as Fribourg lost 4-3 at home to Biel.  Desharnais played on Fribourg’s second line in his first SNL game.  He did have three shots on goal, which tied him for the team lead.   Boston’s Tyler Seguin scored two goals for Biel.

After a  scoring slump, Zug defenseman Raphael Diaz appears to be returning to form. He assisted on the game’s first goal as Zug went on to defeat Lugano 3-1 at home. In two games since the November schedule pause Diaz has three assists.

And nothing for Yannick Weber as the Geneva’s  slump continues.  The Eagles lost 4-3 in Zurich Friday. Weber had two shots on goal but was minus-3.

………In the Czech Extraliga  –

Tomas  Plekanec and the Kladno Knights will host Zlin on Sunday.  Zlin is the home of the Bata Shoe Factory.  During the  communist years the city was known as Gottwaldov.  Roman Hamrlik  was born and started his hockey career there.
