DIAZ LEADS ZUG WITH TWO GOALS AS SWISS LEAGUE SCHEDULE RESUMES

Raphael Diaz scored two goals in a 5-3 win over Zurich as the Swiss National League resumed play following their November schedule break Tuesday.  LA Kings captain Dustin Brown, playing his first SNL game, had given Zurich a 3-1 lead before Zug broke loose with four consecutive goals to get the win.  Diaz scored the winner.  Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and assist and Red Wings prospect Damian Brunner had four assists.  The game was played before 8700 in Zurich.

At Lugano, former Canadien Glen Metropolit had a goal and assist, Patrice Bergeron with a goal as Lugano beat Ambri-Piotta 5-2.  Paul Di Pietro, at age-42 the self proclaimed “last guy standing” from the Canadiens 1993 Stanley Cup team, had no points but generated two shots on goal for Lugano.  Di Pietro is the only member of the Habs last championship team still playing professional hockey.

…….The next round of Swiss League games is scheduled for Friday when David Desharnais will make his Fribourg debut  at home against Biel.  Yannick Weber and Geneva is at Zurich also on Friday.

…….The KHL picks up it’s schedule Wednesday.  Ak-Bars Kazan (Alexei Emelin) is at Riga Latvia.  Vityaz Chekhov  (Andrei Markov- rib injury permitting) hosts Dynamo Minsk.

……And Lars Eller is expected to make his debut with JYP Jyväskylä of Finland’s SM-Liga Friday at home against Tappara Tampere.  Among his teammates are Montrealers and former NHLer’s Ramzi Abid and Eric Perrin
