Pateryn suffered the injury during Friday night’s 3-2 shootout loss in Rochester. He will undergo surgery and will be out of the Bulldogs lineup indefinitely.
Pateryn signed a professional contract with the Canadiens in Nay after graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in kinesiology. The Canadiens acquired the rights to Pateryn from Toronto in return for forward Mikhail Grabovski.
Another rookie, Antoine Corbin took his place on the Canadiens defence Saturday night in the second half of the home and home series against the Americans.
He joins forward Louis Leblanc and goaltender Cedrick Desjardins on the sidelines. Desjardins has yet to play this season after suffering a training camp groin injury. He is now listed as day-to-day. Leblanc suffered a high ankle sprain in the season’s third game and is not expected back until December.
