MARLIES BEAT BULLDOGS IN OVERTIME FRIDAY NIGHT-Gallagher Scores First Goal

Oct 26th, 2012 | By | Category: Hockey-General News, St. John's IceCaps

Canadiens prospect Brendan Gallagher had his professional coming out party in Hamilton Friday night but his efforts were not rewarded with a victory as the Toronto Marlies beat the Bulldogs 5-4 in overtime before 5,569 highly entertained fans at Copps Coliseum.

Gallagher scored his first goal as a professional and assisted on another as the Bulldogs came back to tie Toronto three times and eventually force the overtime.  Gallagher also led both teams with ten shots on goal.

Marlies defenseman Simon Gysbers scored the game overtime winner.

The Bulldogs came back three times to tie the game with Gabriel Dumont’s goal at 13:42 of the third period forcing the overtime.  Along with Gallagher, Michael Blunden and Frederic St. Denis scored for the Bulldogs.   Other Toronto goals were scored by Carter Ashton, Jake Gardiner, Greg McKegg and Mike Zigomanis.  (Box Score & Updated Team Scoring Stats Below)

Hamilton outshot Toronto 39-23 which is a deceptive statistic.  While the Bulldogs played with a lot of energy, it was youthful enthusiasm and the quality shots and scoring chances were fairly even between the teams.  This season is going to be a work in progress and the Bulldogs nine rookie pros gain experience.

Notable performances from the Bulldogs – Blake Geoffrion, Patrick Holland,  Gallagher and Steve Quailer among the forwards.  Greg Pateryn caught my eye on defense.

The Bulldogs will host the Abbotsford Heat Sunday.

Healthy Scratches: Alexander Avtsin, Alain Berger, Brendon Nash.    Out With Injuries – forward Louis Leblanc (high ankle sprain) goaltender Cedrick Desjardins (groin)

……In the WHL Tim Bozon, the Canadiens third round pick (64th), added two goals and an assist to his total as Kamloops beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 8-1 at home.  Bozon is third in WHL scoring (behind two linemates) with 13 goals and 11 assists in 14 games.  Kamloops is 13-0-1 to start the season.
