Raphael Diaz added three assists to his total but Zug lost it’s Swiss National League game to the Rapperswil Lakers 6-5 in a shootout.  The game was played before 6340 in Zug.   Diaz, the highest scoring defenseman in the SNL, now has 3 goals and 10 assists, only four points behind the overall league leaders, teammate and Detroit prospect Damian Brunner and former Canadien Glen Metropolit of Lugano.    Ottawa’s Jason Spezza had four assists and then scored the shootout winner for the Lakers.  It was Spezza’s second four point game in eight Swiss League appearances.  Henrik Zetterberg, who agreed to a Zug contract earlier in the week, was not in the lineup.

Max Pacioretty was missing from the lineup for the third straight game as Ambri-Piotta hosted HC Davos.    Ambri ended it’s ten game losing streak with a 4-2 win before 5366 fans in Valascia Stadium in Ambri.  The combined population of Ambri and Piotta is 900 yet the team has 3,000 season ticket holders.  Pacioretty has been reportedly battling a flu bug.  Rick Nash scored one of the Davos goals.

League leading Geneva dropped a 4-1 decision to the Flyers in Kloten.  The only entry on the Yannick Weber line was a two minute penalty.  No points, no shots on goal.  Washington’s Brooks Laich scored two goals for Kloten.

Ambri, Zug and Geneva are off until next Friday when Ambri will play at Geneva and Zug will host Zurich.

In the KHL at Chekhov Russia, Andrei Markov played in his fourth game with Vityaz Chekhov Saturday, a 1-0 loss to Donbass, the team from the Ukrainian city of Donetsk.  The game was played before only 2,600 fans in the 3300 seat Chekhov Hockey Centre.  Markov logged a season-high 19:18 and registered two shots on goal.  Vityaz next game will be at Cherepovets to play Severstal on Monday.

The other two Canadiens currently playing in Europe, Tomas Plekanec and Tomas Kaberle will see action tomorrow when Kladno plays host to Litvinov in the Czech Extraliga.
