FLU BENCHES PACIORETTY – Swiss League Action Tuesday

A case of the flu forced the slumping Max Pacioretty out of the Ambri-Piotta lineup and his teammates blew a 2-0 lead en route to a home ice 5-3 loss to Bern Tuesday night.  It was their ninth straight loss.   Pacioretty has not recorded  a point in the four games since he scored a goal in his debut with Ambri.  .  Pacioretty has 1 goal 0 assists in five games but leads the team with 22 shots.  The Islanders John Taveres scored twice for Bern.

Ambri head coach Kevin Constantine was given a vote of confidence from the Ambri board of directors on Monday.

Raphael Diaz scored a goal but Zug lost a 3-2 overtime decision to Davos.  In nine games with Zug Diaz has two goals and six assists.   Joe Thornton and Rick Nash (back from a bruised shoulder) each scored goals for Davos.  Henrik Zetterberg, who signed with Zug on Monday, was not in their lineup.

Yannick Weber notched one assist as the league leading Geneva-Servette Eagles beat Rapperswil-Jona Lakers 8-1.  San Jose’s Logan Couture had 2 goals and 2 assists for Geneva.  The Eagles have won ten of their season’s first eleven games.  In nine games, Weber has 3 goals and 4 assists.

Also in Europe….

……..Andrei Markov and his KHL Vityaz Chekhov teammates will play Spartak in Moscow on Wednesday.  It will be Markov’s third game.

……….In the Czech Extraliga, Kladno’s Tomas Plekanec and Tomas Kaberle play next on Thursday at Plzen.

Kladno team owner Jaromir Jagr announced Monday that, for the third time this season, his team will play a home game at the O2 arena in Prague October 23rd against the Brno Comet.  In the two previous games at O2 Kladno drew a total of 31,280 fans. Prague is located 25 kilometres southeast of Kladno.

Oddly, the Knights are not selling out at their 8500 capacity Zimni (Municipal) Stadium.  On the road, with it’s quintet of locked out NHLer’s, the Knights have been a hit.  They have played to sold out crowds in Chomutov, Zlin and Budejovice, a near sellout at Sparta Prague.  Thursday’s game in Pilsen is already sold out.
