PREVIEW GAME #37 Canadiens @ Pittsburgh (Dec. 31/2016)

In the last meeting between the teams Al Montoya shut the Penguins out 4-0 at the Bell Centre October 18th.

….The last time the teams met in Pittsburgh was November 15th 2015, a 4-3 shootout loss for the Canadiens.

….The last 16 games the teams have met the Penguins are 9-4-3. Last season the Canadiens were 1-1-1 in the three meetings.

After winning four of five meetings two years ago, the Canadiens were swept in four games by Florida last season. In their last five meetings the Canadiens are 0-4-1.

The Canadiens last win at Columbus was Feb 26 2015 (5-2). The Blue Jackets have won the last two at home vs. Montreal and three straight overall. The 10-0 win over the Canadiens Nov. 4th was the largest margin of victory in Columbus history. .In the last seven games against the Canadiens Columbus is 7 for 18 on the power play (38.9%). Four of the ten goals Nov. 4th came on the Blue Jackets power play.

Second of two meetings this season. On Nov. 29 @ Anaheim Anaheim-2 Canadiens-1. Anaheim took 2-0 lead on goals by Rakell and Fowler. Andrew Shaw scored with 2 minutes left.Canadiens outshot the Ducks 40-38. Price vs. Gibson. All time the Ducks have a 6-6-2 record at the Bell Centre.
The Ducks have lost to the Canadiens only twice in the last 13 meetings between the teams. (9-2-2).

Both teams are in the second of back-to-back games. The Capitals played at Carolina Friday night and won in a shootout; the Canadiens lost 4-2 at home to San Jose.

….The Canadiens have lost their last two games (vs. Boston in OT Monday and San Jose Friday)

….Until the Canadiens beat Washinton 4-3 last February the Capitals had earned a point in seven consecutive games vs. the Canadiens (5-0-2). During that stretch the Canadiens managed to score only 11 goals.

Nov. 8 @ Bell Centre – Canadiens-3 Bruins-2. Byron scored game winner with 1:02 remaining. Canadiens outshot 43-23. Price vs. Zane McIntyre.

Since the Nordiques became the Avalanche in 1995 the Canadiens are 7-14-4 against them – 5-5-2 at the Bell Centre.
The last time the Canadiens defeated Colorado at home was Oct. 18, 2014.
