Apr 2nd, 2017 | By

In today’s parity-driven NHL, the playoffs actually begin sometime around the beginning of March. There are a couple of reasons for that. Mar 31st, 2017 | By

Playoff bound! It’s every team’s  first goal  when they start the long season in October. The Canadiens clinched their berth in the Stanley Cup show with five games remaining in their season. PREVIEW GAME #77 Florida @ Canadiens (March 30, 2017)

Mar 29th, 2017 | By

With 95 points, the Canadiens magic number for clinching a playoff berth is one. Either a loss by Tampa or a win by the Canadiens will put the Canadiens in the post season.

….Over their last 13 home games the Canadiens are 5-6-2. Over that stretch they have scored 23 goals. The Panthers have lost 13 of their last 18 games (5-12-1). Eight of the losses by one goal.

….They are 0-2 on their current four-game road trip. A combination of a Panthers loss to the Canadiens and a Bruins win or overtime loss to Dallas Thursday would eliminate them from the playoffs.

BALANCED EFFORT – Canadiens-4 Dallas-1 (March 28, 2017)

AGELESS ANDREI – Canadiens-3 Ottawa-1 (March 25, 2017)

Mar 25th, 2017 | By

The Canadiens showed up again when it counted. After last weekend’s sweep of the Senators, the Canadiens had Ottawa where they wanted them and then they came up with two dreadful home ice efforts against teams currently out of the playoff picture, to allow them back into the race for first place in the Atlantic

TOOTHLESS IN MONTREAL – Carolina-4 Canadiens-1 (March 23, 2017)

Mar 24th, 2017 | By

Other than a slight tightening of the defense, the Canadiens under Claude Julien doesn’t look very much different than the one that got Michel Therrien fired five weeks ago. And in the 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes even the defense was sloppy. The collective psychology of sports teams has dumbfounded me for decades now.
