EAST QUARTER-FINAL #1 – NY Rangers @ Canadiens (April 12/2017)

.Starting in 1930 the Canadiens have played the Rangers 15 times – for New York, the most of any opponent. The Rangers have an 8-7 edge in series.

….Since the Original-12 in 1967-68 they have played each other seven times during which the Rangers have won four of seven including the last two – 1996 & 2014.

….In 2014, the Canadiens pushed the Rangers to six games before losing to them. Dustin Tokarski was in goal for the final five games after Carey Price was injured in the well-documented second period collision with Chris Kreider. The Rangers won the deciding 6th game 1-0. (Tokarski spent the 2016-17 season at AHL-San Diego in the Anaheim Ducks system).

….In 2014 the Rangers outscored the Canadiens 20-16. In their four losses the Rangers outscored the Canadiens 14-5 – the Canadiens were shutout once, scored a single goal once and two goals in the other two games.

PREVIEW GAME #82 Canadiens @ Detroit (April 8/2017)

Six regulars did not make the trip to Detroit. Carey Price, Max Pacioretty, Andrei Markov and Alexander Radulov are being rested. Shea Weber and Alexei Emelin are injured.

….The Canadiens brought up defenseman Mikhail Sergachev from OHL-Windsor and will play. He will have #22. He is projected to play on the third pairing with Brett Lernout.

….Charlie Lindgren will be in goal. Al Montoya backup.

The last time the Canadiens played in Buffalo was the opening game of the season October 13th.

….The Canadiens have won seven of the last nine games in Buffalo and have at least a point in 14 of the last 17.

….The Sabres are 5-4-1 in their last ten overall games vs. the Canadiens – 3-5-2 at home. The road team has won eight of the last 12 meetings in the Buffalo/Canadiens series.

….Since the Canadiens swept a four game series in 2013-14 the Canadiens are 5-4-2 overall vs. the Sabres. Four of the 11 games were decided in overtime and another in a shootout.

PREVIEW GAME #79 Canadiens @ Florida (April 3/2017)

The Canadiens can clinch first place in the Atlantic Division with a win over Florida. Both Ottawa and Toronto are eight points behind the Canadiens with five games left to play. Losses by them would also clinch first place. Toronto plays in Buffalo Monday night. Ottawa is at Detroit.

….The Canadiens have given up the third fewest goals in the Eastern Conference at 191 – 2.45 average per game. They rank 8th in goals-for with 216, an average of 2.77. Their differential of plus-25 is fifth in the conference.

….Over the last four games the Danault/Pacioretty’Radulov line has produced 8 goals, 8 assists.

….The Plekanec/Byron/Gallagher line has been together for eight games. In that stretch they have produced nine goals, eight assists.
